In its beginning, The United Methodist Church was a vibrant and beautiful movement, following in the biblically-rooted traditions and teachings of John Wesley. However, like so many once Orthodox institutions, there developed many major theological issues within, some dating back many decades. Now, the UMC is going through a major schism, with the most public issues being human sexuality and identity. Thankfully, with the formation of The Global Methodist Church, faithful Methodists now have a fresh Orthodox movement to both gather within as well as launch from to fulfill the purposes of global evangelism and discipleship. In this episode, Rev. Tom Lambrecht and Garry Ingraham discuss the unique story of the UMC, as well as the critical importance for Christians (of all denominations) to stay rooted in the basic foundations of our faith.

Mainline denominations around the world have gone through schisms and splits due to numerous core theological differences. Divergent views on human sexuality and LGBTQ+ identity are often two of the most prominent and public areas of division. The most recent example of such a split has developed within The United Methodist Church and the recent founding of The Global Methodist Church. In this episode, Garry Ingraham and president of Good News, Rev. Rob Renfroe, offer a fascinating inside look at how the schism within the UMC developed. They also discuss how we as Christians of all denominations bear the responsibility for how we treat others, as well as the need to be sober and clear-eyed regarding our own walk of faithfulness with Christ.
